The words ‘female hygiene’ may mean different things to different women. However, it is a generally a term often used for products that keep a woman’s vaginal area clean, fresh and healthy.
The vagina naturally produces some discharge to eradicate germs and bacteria from your body. Therefore, douching or using harsh cleaners or soaps can disrupt your natural pH balance and can irritate your vagina, washing away the good bacteria.
Douching also only masks the smell and doesn’t get the bottom of the issue. For example, if your vagina has a fishy odour, this could be the sign of bacterial vaginosis, a very common vaginal infection that’s easily treatable. Therefore, use warm water and mild soap cleaning the vulva, and you don’t actually need to clean inside of the vagina.
We have female hygiene products that will help you feeling fresh and at your very best. However, there are simple yet effective things you can do in your daily routine to ensure good female hygiene.
For example, try to avoid using perfumed soaps, gels and antiseptics as these can upset the healthy balance of bacteria and pH levels in the vagina and result in cause irritation. Therefore, opt for plain, unperfumed soaps to gently wash the area around the vagina (the vulva) on a daily basis.
Moreover, to reduce your risk of infections and other upsets, try to dry yourself only with fresh towels after bathing or showering. Unhealthy bacteria may be on the used and damp towels, so always opt for the clean, dry towels instead.
For those who like to keep in shape, always wash and dry yourself properly, especially after exercising. Be sure you change your underwear too to help you remain clean and fresh.
