Wegovy (Semaglutide)
Prices from as little as £3.67 a tablet
(Including Private Prescription)
The Wegovy pill is the first approved once-daily GLP-1 weight loss drug containing the active ingredient Semaglutide. It works to effectively suppress your appetite whilst making you feel fuller and slowing your stomach from emptying.
This was previously only available via a self-administered weekly injection, something not everyone enjoys or is easily able to do themselves. You can buy Wegovy without prescription with Medical Specialists via an online consultation with one of our registered Prescribers who have vast experience with Wegovy.
Due to GPhC requirements, you cannot add the medication to your basket here. The drop downs below just show you prices.
You now have to click ‘Start my Consultation’, complete the consultation questions, and after this you can add the medication to your basket.
Prices are for reference only. Decisions about treatment are for both the prescriber and the patient to jointly consider during the consultation. However, the final decision will always be the prescriber's.
- World's first GLP-1 oral weight loss drug
- Needle-free alternative to injections
- Discreet and can be taken on the go
- Genuine UK medication
What is Wegovy?
The Wegovy pill is an oral tablet taken once daily which comprises of Semaglutide; previously only available in an injectable form. However, some people have a fear or phobia of needles, may find it inconvenient to be injecting themselves every week, then there is the issue of having to safely dispose of the used needles as they cannot go in your general waste bin.
Therefore, the new Wegovy weight loss pill may appeal to far more people who are suitable for the drug and wanting an effective medication to use alongside their weight management plan. In addition, we also have further weight loss information that may be of help to those looking to lose weight when they buy Wegovy tablets.
How does Wegovy work?
Wegovy works in a number of ways to help you lose weight. Semaglutide acts like the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) hormone in your body, which is normally released in the gut after you have eaten.
It binds to GLP-1 receptors in the brain and gut, sending signals that you are satisfied and rejecting ‘food noise’ or cravings.
Wegovy also works to slow down digestion. By delaying gastric emptying, this helps for food to remain in your stomach for longer so you feel fuller in-between your meals.
The medication also works to help the pancreas to release insulin when blood sugar levels are elevated, stopping spikes and stabilising energy.
Who can take Wegovy?
The once-daily Semaglutide (Wegovy) tablet has been granted authorisation to treat adults in the UK with obesity who have:
A body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above; or
A BMI between 27 and 30 and at least one weight-related comorbidity.
What is the Wegovy Dose Plan?
· 1.5mg Taken Once Daily Days 1 - 30 Starting Dose
· 4mg Taken Once Daily Days 31 - 60 Work Your way Up
· 9mg Taken Once Daily Days 61 - 90 Work Your way Up
· 25mg Taken Once Daily Day 91 onwards Maximum Dose
Wegovy Pill vs Injection
Whereas previously you had to inject yourself with Wegovy on a weekly basis, the new oral tablet simply requires you to take one tablet a day, offering a more discreet and potentially safer way to take the medication.
The injections had to be stored in the fridge, however the tablets can be stored at room temperature. This makes it far more convenient in terms of travel and being able to take it on the go.
The injectable Wegovy did not have any restrictions on timing or food intake, but the tablets need to be taken first thing in a morning on an empty stomach.
The once-weekly injection contained a maximum dosage of 2.4mg. With the tablet, as the digestive system breaks down much of the pill, patients will need a much higher dose (up to 25mg) to achieve the same effect.
How do I store the Wegovy Pill?
To protect your medicine, store your Wegovy tablets at room temperature (68 °F to 77 °F) and in a dry place. It is vital they are kept in their original bottle and to keep it tightly closed until you are ready to take your pill.
How do I take the Wegovy Pill?
The Wegovy pill can seamlessly slot into your usual morning routine. Simply swallow it whole (do not chew it) on an empty stomach in the morning with water (up to 4 ounces).
It is important you then wait 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other oral medications. This will enable it to be properly absorbed. For Wegovy to work effectively as intended, take the medication at around the same time, in the same way each day.
How long can I take the Wegovy Pill for?
Patients can take the Wegovy pill for as long as it takes them to achieve their target weight. As the medication has been approved for long-term weight loss, it can be taken to maintain the weight loss until you’re ready to stop.
However, following 6 months on the treatment, you should see your own doctor to assess your weight loss progress and they should check if you’ve lost at least 5% of your starting body weight.
If you have, then you should be able to continue with the treatment if it is working for you and not causing any major side effects. Alternatively, your doctor may suggest other weight loss treatments if you have not lost at least 5% of your starting weight.
What are the possible side effects of Wegovy?
Side effects are rare, and most people don’t get any. Possible side effects may vary from one person to the next, as with any medication. You should always read the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before taking this or any other medication.
This will give you important instructions on how and when to use the medication, as well as any possible side effects of the drug.
