Trimethoprim is an antibiotic treatment for cystitis and urinary tract infections. We will only prescribe this medication for female patients
under the age of 65.
Before taking Trimethoprim
Do not take Trimethoprim tablets and tell your doctor if you:
- are allergic (hypersensitive) to trimethoprim or any of the other ingredients in the tablet
- are pregnant
- have any blood disorder
- have severe kidney disease
How to take Trimethoprim
Always take Trimethoprim tablets exactly as as detailed in the Patient Information Leaflet. Swallow the tablets with a glass of water at the same times each day.
- Severe or sudden infections: (e.g. uncomplicated bacterial cystitis in women) or urinary tract infections for Women, treatment will be for 3 days (6 tablets).
- Adults: 200mg twice a day.
