What is Treclin Gel for?

Please note: If you have used any preparations that contain Sulphur, Salicylic Acid, Benzoyl Peroxide or Rescinol or any chemical abrasives; you will need to wait until the effect of those have subsided until you start using this medicine. Your doctor can advise you when you can start using Treclin after you buy Treclin online.

Please note: Only use Treclin alongside other similar products if your doctor or pharmacist says it's OK. Applying two topical treatments may cause your skin to become very sore.

Treclin Gel (Clindamycin 1% / Tretinoin 0.025% w/w) is a popular topical treatment normally used to treat moderate levels of this complaint. Tretinoin, the active ingredient in Treclin Gel, has been shown to attenuate and reverse the signs of photodamage, such as coarse wrinkling.[1] Topical retinoids have shown beneficial efficacy and good safety profiles in the management of photodamaged skin, and as therapeutic anti-ageing agents.[2] It has been found that topical application of retinoic acid (0.025%) to chronically photodamaged skin regenerated and restored elastic fibres, and that there was a significant positive correlation between the amount of newly regenerated elastic fibre and the wrinkle improvement caused by retinoic acid.[3]

For scar treatment, medical papers show that excellent improvement was observed in the majority of patients (73.3%) in recent trials using Tretinoin 0.025%.[4]

Some people may consider buying Treclin Gel online if they have had good results with Retin-A in the past, and need to find an alternative treatment, as both topical medicines contain Tretinoin.

How does Treclin Gel work?

Treclin contains the active substances Clindamycin and Tretinoin. Clindamycin is an antibiotic. It limits the growth of bacteria associated with causing the acne and the inflammation caused by these bacteria. Tretinoin normalises the growth of superficial skin cells and causes normal shedding of the cells that clog the hair follicles in areas with the problem. How to use Treclin Gel

When you buy Treclin Gel online, always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you, or as outlined in the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL). Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose is:

A pea-sized amount of Treclin should be applied once daily at bedtime.

Method of administration

Wash your face gently with mild soap and warm water and pat your skin dry with a towel. Squeeze a pea-sized amount of gel onto the fingertip. Dab the gel on your forehead, chin, nose and both cheeks, and then gently spread it evenly over your whole face.

Do not use more than the amount that has been suggested by your doctor, or apply the product more frequently than instructed. Too much medication may irritate the skin, and will not give faster or better results.

Duration of treatment

To get the best results with Treclin, it is necessary to use it properly and not stop using it as soon as your symptoms start to get better. Typically, it may take several weeks to have an optimal effect. In some cases, it may take up to 12 weeks. If you need to use this medication continuously for more than 12 weeks, you may need to speak to your doctor to re-evaluate your symptoms and treatment, and your doctor may suggest using it for longer than this period. Don’t just stop using Treclin unless told to do so by your doctor.

Further Advice when you buy Treclin Gel online

Allow peeling (resulting from other irritant treatments) to subside before using a topical retinoid;

avoid accumulation in angles of the nose;

avoid contact with eyes, nostrils, mouth and mucous membranes,

eczematous, broken or sunburned skin;

avoid exposure to UV light (including sunlight, solariums); avoid use of topical retinoids with keratolytic agents, abrasive cleaners, comedogenic or astringent cosmetics; caution in sensitive areas such as the neck; severe acne.

If sun exposure is unavoidable, an appropriate sunscreen or protective clothing should be used.

Patients and carers should be warned that some redness and skin peeling can occur initially but settles with time.

To reduce the risk of skin irritation, treatment may be started with alternate-day or short-contact application (e.g. washing off after an hour) and progressed to standard application if tolerated.

If severe irritation occurs, the frequency of application should be reduced or treatment suspended until the reaction subsides; if irritation persists, discontinue treatment.

Several months of treatment may be needed to achieve an optimal response and the treatment should be continued until no new lesions develop.
