Spironolactone 100mg is a very popular medication that may be prescribed (unlicensed) as a treatment for female acne, female hair loss and female hirsutism. You may be suitable to buy Spironolactone online only after reading the important information section below, and you will need to supply test results dated within the last 2 months showing your Sodium and Potassium levels with your first consultation for our prescribers. Should you continue the therapy, new test results are required at every 6 months from the date of the test thereafter whilst on the treatment.
- Very effective female acne treatment
- Also treats female hair loss and hirsutism
- Simple once daily tablet
- Genuine UK medication
Important Information before you buy Spironolactone Online
Please note: Before you buy Spironolactone tablets online, NEW patients MUST have a blood test prior to therapy dated within the last 2 months, and supply the results to our Prescribers.
You MUST request to any laboratory/testing company you use, that BOTH Sodium and Potassium levels are checked. Failure to have one or both of these checked will cause a delay processing your consultation. Also, your results MUST be obtained from a UK-based laboratory/testing company.
Please send a copy of you results by email to [email protected]. Unfortunately, we are unable to recommend where to obtain results from privately and your own doctor may be able to recommend a suitable location, or carry out the test privately for you. Each page of the results must clearly show your name and date of birth. In addition, first time users of Spironolactone must add a picture within the consultation where requested of the visible symptoms to the best of their ability.
Please note: Patients MUST supply their GP and Surgery address on their consultation so that we can send a copy of your online consultation and blood test results to them.
Please note: We prescribe Spironolactone for an off-label (unlicensed) use. For more information about this, please read our Information Leaflet together with the British Association of Dermatologists leaflet.
Please note: In relation to transgender patients who are requesting treatment with Spironolactone, Medical Specialists® recognise that this is a specialised use of this particular medicine. Therefore we regretfully advise that we are not in a position to prescribe or supply this medicine to transgender patients.
What is Spironolactone for?
- Female acne.
- Female hair loss and/or hirsutism.
Although Spironolactone is one of the most prescribed drugs for these problems outside the UK, it is not licensed for this use in the UK. Our Prescribers may allow this medication to certain females who fit the criteria, and who have found other prescribed medication unsuccessful. You can find further information about Spironolactone from The British Association of Dermatologists.
Spironolactone tablets belong to a group of medicines called potassium-sparing diuretics (water tablets), which help the body lose excess fluid. Spironolactone is only prescribed for females, is non hormonal, and does not act as a contraceptive.
Androgen hormones, like testosterone, are typically thought of as male hormones, but androgens are also present in the female body, although in lower levels. Spironolactone blocks androgen receptors in the body, preventing cells from absorbing androgen hormones, which can cause acne, hair loss and hirsutism (excessive body hair growth) in females.
How does Spironolactone work?
Besides being a potassium-sparing diuretic, Spironolactone acts as an anti-androgen that works in two ways. First of all it slows down the production of androgens in the adrenal glands and ovaries. Secondly it blocks the action of androgens in part by preventing dihydrotestosterone from binding to its androgenetic receptor.
How to take Spironolactone
Spironolactone is available from Medical Specialists® in 100mg tablets only. The recommended dose is 100mg daily for the (unlicensed) purposes of treating female acne, female hair loss or female hirsutism.
When placing an online consultation to buy Spironolactone UK, one of the questions will ask if you understand that this medication is not licensed in the UK for the treatment you are requesting. Although this should be straightforward to understand, please feel free to contact us if you are unsure what this means.
What are the possible side effects of Spironolactone?
Side effects are rare, and most people don’t get any. Possible side effects may vary from one person to the next, as with any medication. You should always read the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before taking this or any other medication.
This will give you important instructions on how and when to take the medication, as well as any possible side effects of the drug.
As this medication is supplied off-label (unlicensed), together with the medication, we will provide a Medical Specialists® leaflet with guidance for its off-label use.
