What is Propecia (Finasteride) for?

Propecia (Finasteride 1mg) tablets are prescribed to treat mild to moderate male pattern baldness (also known as androgenetic alopecia) and are an orally taken treatment.

Propecia is most effective for mild to moderate hair loss over the top of the scalp (vertex). Although you can buy Generic Propecia online (Finasteride) and this should be just as effective, some men prefer to buy Propecia online as it is branded and more familiar to them. Propecia (Finasteride) is not suitable for men with complete hair loss.

Some men may feel they get better results taking Propecia whilst also using a topical Minoxidil-containing hair loss treatment such as Regaine Foam or Regaine Lotion.

How does Propecia (Finasteride) work?

Propecia prevents formation of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the hair cell, by blocking an important enzyme (Type II 5a-reductase) that works to convert testosterone to DHT.

DHT is an androgen (sex hormone) that gives a man ‘male characteristics’ such as body hair, but can also make you lose head hair faster, and DHT is usually present in higher levels in men who suffer from male pattern baldness. Because Propecia decreases the formation of DHT in the scalp and hair follicle, this can lead to reversal of the balding process; it increases hair growth and prevents further hair loss associated with male pattern baldness.

Without treatment with Propecia, the DHT will continue to contribute to shortening of the growth phase and thinning of the hair. In most cases, Propecia’s beneficial effects will show after about 3-6 months of daily use, but may take longer for visual effects.

Can I get Propecia on the NHS?

Propecia (Finasteride) is not available on the NHS for the treatment of male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). That means you must buy Propecia privately for male hair loss from a reputable source such as Medical Specialists® Pharmacy.

Hair Loss Pills Online

Many men when searching online to buy hair loss pills or other treatments, may come across a wide variety of weird and wonderful options to choose from. How to take Propecia (Finasteride)

When you buy Propecia online, always take Propecia or Finasteride exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you, or as outlined in the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL). Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose is 1 tablet each day. The tablet can be taken with or without food.
