Pravastatin is one of a number of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor medications, also known as Statins.

A research paper in the British Medical Journal^[1] stated that when compared with Pravastatin, Atorvastatin, Rosuvastatin, and Simvastatin are associated with a greater risk of new onset diabetes, regardless of their use for primary or secondary prevention of cardiovascular events.

How does Pravastatin work?

When you buy Pravastatin, it works to effectively lower harmful cholesterol levels by targeting the work of the enzyme needed for its production. This enzyme is called HMG-CoA reductase.

This harmful ‘bad’ cholesterol is called low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and it is this type that builds up in and becomes clogged in your arteries. When there is less LDL produced, the ‘good’ type is more effective in the body - high-density lipoprotein (HDL).

How to take Pravastatin

Your doctor will likely have started you on a low dose of Pravastatin and then increased it gradually to a maximum dose of Pravastatin 40mg daily.

Your doctor may do blood tests to check your cholesterol levels during your treatment with Pravastatin. Your dose of Pravastatin may be changed based on these blood test results.

Take Pravastatin daily at about the same time each day. The medication can be taken with or without food.

Don't break Pravastatin tablets before taking.

Your doctor should start you on a low-fat diet before giving you Pravastatin. Stay on this low-fat diet when you buy Pravastatin online. If you miss a dose of Pravastatin, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take Pravastatin if it has been more than 12 hours since you missed your last dose. Wait and take the next dose at your regular time. Do not take 2 doses of Pravastatin at the same time.

If you take too much Pravastatin or overdose, call your doctor or Poison Control Centre right away, or go to the nearest emergency room.
