What is Oxytetracycline for?

Please note: You can buy Oxytetracycline online from Medical Specialists® only for the treatment of acne or rosacea.

Please note: Oxytetracycline is often prescribed as an effective treatment for moderate and severe cases of acne.

The active ingredient in the medication, Oxytetracycline 250mg, belongs to a group of medicines called Tetracycline antibiotics. Oxytetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic which can effectively treat various kinds of bacterial infections.

How does Oxytetracycline work?

In the treatment of acne, Oxytetracycline works to destroy bacteria linked with causing spots. Bacteria can feed on the sebum released by the sebaceous glands in our skin, then produce fatty acids and waste products which can cause irritation to the glands, causing spots and inflammation. When you buy Oxytetracycline 250mg tablets, they work by inhibiting the bacteria’s ability to produce the essential proteins required for their reproduction.

By reducing the amount of bacteria, Oxytetracycline is effective at reducing inflammation, allowing the skin begin to heal naturally. Any remaining bacteria that may exist should eventually die out or are killed off by the immune system.

Can I use Oxytetracycline with Epiduo or Differin?

Yes - Your doctor or dermatologist will usually advise you to use a topical form of treatment when taking Oxytetracycline tablets. This may be a lotion of cream to be applied/rubbed on to the affected area of skin. When treating acne, Differin Cream or Gel, or Epiduo Gel will normally be prescribed to be used with Oxytetracycline.

How to take Oxytetracycline

Always fully read the Patient Information Leaflet after you buy Oxytetracycline online for acne or rosacea, as the directions for use can differ depending on your requirement. Your own doctor should tell you how to take Oxytetracycline, as well as the number of times per day to take the medication.

However, for treating acne, 2 x 250mg tablets are usually taken twice daily. For rosacea, the recommended dosage is 2 x 250mg tablets taken twice daily for 6 to 12 weeks, although your doctor may suggest that this 6 to 12 week course may be repeated intermittently.

The tablets should be taken on an empty stomach with a glass of water whilst you are standing up or sitting down in order to minimise the risk of irritation to the oesophagus. As Oxytetracycline may become less effective by some food or liquids (e.g. milk or other dairy products), they should be taken 1 hour prior to a meal, or 2 hours after a meal.

With any antibiotic tablets for acne, this medication may take some time before you see full benefits. The tablets are usually taken for at least 3 months in the treatment of acne. However, if you do not experience improvement in your symptoms following 6 months treatment, you should see your own doctor for a review of your treatment plan going forward.

What are the possible side effects of Oxytetracycline?

Side effects are rare, and most people don’t get any. Possible side effects may vary from one person to the next, as with any medication. You should always read the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before taking or any other medication.

This will give you important instructions on how and when to take the medication, as well as any possible side effects of the drug.
