How does Norethisterone work?

Norethisterone contains a synthetic version of the body's hormone progesterone. When the body’s progesterone levels fall each month, this causes a period. Therefore by Norethisterone keeping these particular hormones at a high level, this means the period will be delayed. This is particularly ideal if you have a special occasion, such as a holiday or important business trip for example.

Can I get pregnant on Norethisterone?

If you engage in unprotected sex whilst taking Norethisterone, it is possible you can become pregnant. You can buy Norethisterone without a prescription from Medical Specialists® for period delay, but it does not act as a contraceptive pill.

How to take Norethisterone

You can buy Norethisterone 5mg tablets to be taken three times daily to delay periods (15mg a day in total), starting three days before you expect your period to begin, continuing for no longer than 17 days after this (20 days in total).

You should have a period within two to three days of stopping Norethisterone and your normal cycle will resume. However, if you do not get a period as expected with the three days, the manufacturer’s Information Leaflet advises you to check with your doctor in case you are pregnant.  

Usually Norethisterone is taken at the same time each day (such as in the morning, midday and in the evening). If you forget to take a tablet on one day, simply continue taking the regular dose on the following day, or when the next dose is due. Do not take two doses together. As with any medication, always read the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) when you buy Norethisterone online, as this will give you more information about the medicine.
