Man found guilty of selling fake Viagra and Cialis pills in Charlotte, U.S.

A 55-year old male from Charlotte, North Carolina, has been found guilty of selling counterfeit
erectile dysfunction pills. Awni Shauib Zayyad initially faced prosecution back in December 2010 following a lengthy investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who were cooperating with Homeland Security.
Under federal law in the U.S., Viagra and Cialis are prescription drug products that contain a compound for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and are approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for distribution within the United States. Since they are prescription drugs, they may be dispensed only upon a written or oral prescription of a practitioner licensed by law to administer such drug.
His indictment in 2010 by a federal grand jury, included three charges: conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit Viagra and counterfeit
Cialis, three counts of trafficking and attempting to traffic in counterfeit Viagra and countefeit Cialis, and three counts of holding and dispensing counterfeit drug products with intent to defraud and mislead. On 14 February 2012, following a trial that spanned two days, Zayyad was convicted of all three charges. He is now awaiting a sentence, but it is believed he could be imprisoned for up to 17 years and be slapped with fines totalling roughly $752,000.
Authorities first became alerted to Zayyad’s illegal activities in June 2010 after he sold over 500 fake
Viagra tablets to a Charlotte convenience store where police were undergoing surveillance. Authorities then began surveyance on Zayyad’s residence and at one point even proceeded to follow him on a four hour drive to Charlotte. On this particular journey, police stopped and arrested him before he could arrive at his destination, uncovering more than 200 counterfeit Cialis tablets and over 500 counterfeit Viagra tablets.
If you were to purchase counterfeit goods such as a fake watch or trainers, the worst that may happen is that they break or damage after a short time period and you are out of money. Taking counterfeit ‘medicine’ on the other hand, can have serious consequences on your health and even your life. For starters, you simply do not know what is inside the tablet. It could be talcum powder, blue printer ink, and such toxic ingredients like boric acid, floor wax, brick dust, and road paint! Remarkably, all of these compounds have been found inside various counterfeit Viagra tablets at some stage.
