What is Mirvaso Gel for?
Mirvaso Gel is an effective topical treatment often prescribed to treat redness and flushing associated with the common skin condition rosacea.
After being applied to the skin, the gel passes through it and specifically targets the blood vessels of the face to reduce the redness, a symptom that can cause mental as well as physical problems for those who suffer with the condition.
How does Mirvaso Gel work?
The active ingredient within Mirvaso Gel is called Brimonidine, a medicine known as an alpha agonist.
This gets to work on your blood vessels, shrinking them, which restricts blood flow to the skin. This has the effect of reducing flushing, redness and swelling. Each gram of Mirvaso Gel contains 3.3mg of Brimonidine. The gel is opaque and can appear as white to light yellow in colour.
How to use Mirvaso Gel
When you buy Mirvaso Gel online, always read the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before application.
However the PIL states that Mirvaso should be applied to the face once daily. A pea-sized amount should be applied directly onto the area(s) affected – for example chin, nose, forehead, and cheeks. The gel should be spread evenly and thinly.
Following application, you should wash your hands. Avoid using other skin treatments and products on these areas of skin before applying Mirvaso (you can however apply them afterwards after the Mirvaso has dried).
As Mirvaso works with each daily application, skin redness will not subside on days you don’t use the medication. Do not use 2 doses of Mirvaso to compensate for missing a dose, nor use more than that stated in the PIL or you may get side effects. Seek urgent medical advice if you swallow the gel.
Do not apply Mirvaso to your eyes, lips and other mucous membranes.
What are the possible side effects of Mirvaso Gel?
Side effects are rare, and most people don’t get any. Possible side effects may vary from one person to the next, as with any medication. You should always read the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) using this or any other medication.
This will give you important instructions on how and when to use the medication, as well as any possible side effects of the drug.
