What is Maxalt Tablets for?

Maxalt is an effective medication prescribed for the relief of the painful headache associated with the condition. It effectively helps a person return to the normal routine without the need to take other pain medications.

Maxalt Tablets are used to effectively treat the headache phase of the attack in adults and therefore are not taken to prevent attacks. Only buy Maxalt Tablets online to treat attacks. See Propranolol for prevention.

How does Maxalt Tablets work?

Maxalt Tablets contain the active ingredient Rizatriptan, which works by stimulating receptors called serotonin (or 5HT) receptors that are found in the brain. A natural substance called serotonin normally acts on these receptors, causing blood vessels in the brain to narrow. Rizatriptan mimics this action of serotonin by directly stimulating the serotonin receptors in the brain. This narrows the blood vessels and so relieves the pain of the headaches.

Rizatriptan may not work for some and if this is the case, it may worth considering an alternative treatment such as Sumatriptan.

How to take Maxalt Tablets

Take a Maxalt tablet as soon as possible after your headache has started.

It is not a preventative - Do not buy Maxalt online to use to prevent attacks and you should only buy Triptans for treatment.

Always take Maxalt Tablets exactly as your doctor has told you, or as outlined in the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL). You should check with your doctor or your pharmacist if you are not sure.

The usual dose is 10mg.

If your symptoms return within 24 hours

In some patients, symptoms can return within a 24-hour period. If this occurs, you can take an additional dose of Maxalt. You should always wait at least 2 hours between doses.

If after 2 hours you still have symptoms

If you do not respond to the first dose of Maxalt during an attack, you should not take a second dose of Maxalt for treatment of the same attack. It is still likely, however, that you will respond to Maxalt during the next attack.

Do not take more than 2 doses of Maxalt in a 24-hour period, (for example, do not take more than two 10mg or 5mg tablets or oral lyophilisate in a 24-hour period). You should always wait at least 2 hours between doses.

If your condition worsens, seek medical attention.

What are the possible side effects of Maxalt Tablets?

Side effects are rare, and most people don’t get any. Possible side effects may vary from one person to the next, as with any medication. You should always read the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before taking this or any other medication.

This will give you important instructions on how and when to take the medication, as well as any possible side effects of the drug.
