What is Kliovance for?

Kliovance is a HRT pill; a combination treatment containing a natural version of the oestrogen (estradiol 1mg) and a synthetic version of progestogen (norethisterone 0.5mg).

This combined continuous form of therapy is normally used to effectively treat menopausal symptoms in women who have not had a hysterectomy (an operation to remove the uterus (womb)), and are postmenopausal (or, who have not had a periodic bleed for at least one year).

Compared to other HRT treatments available, Kliovance may be more suited to those women who tend to be more sensitive to hormones. It has also been found to help prevent loss of bone mineral density after the menopause, meaning Kliovance is effective as an osteoporosis prevention.

How does Kliovance work?

When a women goes through the menopause, natural levels of the hormone oestrogen begin to decrease. This causes symptoms such as mood swings, painful or absent periods, hot flashes and more.

As Kliovance contains a natural type of oestrogen, it is able to influence the body in a similar way to the oestrogen that was naturally produced by the body before menopause. Menopause doesn't cause total loss of oestrogen, but the drop in the levels of it result in the uncomfortable symptoms listed above.

Therefore, taking Kliovance on a daily basis both restores oestrogen levels, as well as increasing the levels of the hormone progestogen, which also falls due to the menopause. This means it cannot regulate the womb lining as it usually would. Therefore, Kliovance’s artificial progestogen can reduce the risk of developing endometrial cancer (cancer of the womb).

What are the Benefits of Kliovance?

• Following the menopause, some women develop fragile bones (osteoporosis). Kliovance can work to prevent loss of bone density.

How to take Kliovance

When you buy Kliovance HRT online, always use the medication exactly as instructed by your own doctor or as outlined in the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL). It is important to check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

However, Kliovance are once-a-day tablets that are recommended to be taken at the same time every day. The PIL states that if you miss a dose of Kliovance, you are still able to take the next one, providing it’s been less than 12 hours since you were supposed to take it. If it’s been more than 12 hours, simply wait until it’s time for your next dose and just take that one.

What are the possible side effects of Kliovance?

Side effects are rare, and most people don’t get any. Possible side effects may vary from one person to the next, as with any medication. You should always read the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before taking this or any other medication.
