What is Indometacin for?

Indometacin, also sometimes referred to as Indomethacin, is a popular nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug often prescribed to reduce pain, stiffness, and swelling from inflammation.  The medication is available as an oral capsule in strengths of 25mg and 50mg.

How does Indometacin work?

Indometacin prevents the effects of chemicals in your body, known as cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes. COX enzymes are involved with the production of chemicals in the body, called prostaglandins. These are generated at areas of injury or damage in the body, resulting in pain and inflammation. By blocking the effect of COX enzymes, this means less prostaglandins are produced. With less prostaglandins, you experience less inflammation and pain.
