What is Flixotide for?

Flixotide is known as a ‘preventer inhaler’ and is often prescribed to those who find they need to use their reliever inhaler more than twice a week.

A preventer such as Flixotide is needed to be used every day to get the best results from it. Usually, your doctor won’t prescriber a preventer by itself and may be prescribed together with a blue-coloured reliever inhaler such as Ventolin.

How does Flixotide work?

As Flixotide is classed as an anti-inflammatory steroid medicine, both Flixotide Evohaler and Accuhaler help to ease the inflammation and mucus build-up in the lungs. This is done through the active ingredient Fluticasone helping to clear the airways, which makes it easier for you to breathe.

As you use the medication, the Fluticasone is inhaled straight into your lungs, reducing irritation, inflammation and swelling. Over time, this helps to prevent asthma attacks when taken regularly. For this reason, these types of inhalers are referred to as ‘preventers’.

What is the difference between Flixotide Accuhaler and Evohaler?

Flixotide Accuhaler is a dry power inhaler within a circular container, and is available in strengths of 50mcg, 100mcg, 250mcg and 500mcg. Flixotide Evohaler is a normal inhaler device, and is available in strengths of 50mcg, 125mcg and 500mcg.

There are those who may find an Accuhaler could be easier to use due to the fact you don’t need to press and breathe simultaneously as you need to do with regular inhalers.

How to use Flixotide

  • There are four strengths of the Flixotide Accuhaler available to buy (50mcg, 100mcg, 250mcg, 500mcg) and your doctor will have prescribed you the most suitable strength for your needs.
  • There are three strengths of the Flixotide Evohaler available (50mcg, 125mcg, 250mcg) and your doctor will have prescribed you the most suitable strength for your needs.

When you buy Flixotide Accuhaler or Evohaler online, do not use more than recommended by your doctor or as stated in the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL).

Always read the PIL before using your medicine, as this will list detailed and thorough step-by-step instructions for the proper use of your inhaler. If you are still unsure, speak to your doctor or asthma nurse.

What are the possible side effects of Flixotide?

Side effects are rare, and most people don’t get any. Possible side effects may vary from one person to the next with any medication. You should always read the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before using this or any other medication.

This will give you important instructions on how and when to use the medication, as well as any possible side effects of the drug.
