What is EllaOne for?

Please note: EllaOne is sometimes recommended over Levonelle if your body mass index (BMI) is over 30. Please seek immediate advice from your local pharmacy if you are unsure.

Sometimes accidents happen, and people are forgetful (we are only human after all). Therefore, if you’ve engaged in unprotected sex, or your regular contraceptive method has failed (i.e. split condom), or you simply forgot to take your usual daily contraceptive pill and had unprotected sex, you may be suitable to order EllaOne from our UK online pharmacy.

You can buy EllaOne online to prevent pregnancy, but the pill must be taken within 120 hours (5 days) of sexual intercourse, and will obviously not work if you are already pregnant.

Only buy EllaOne online to use in emergencies. It is not a form of regular contraception.

How does EllaOne work?

When you buy emergency contraceptive EllaOne, it contains 30mg of the active ingredient Ulipristal Acetate, and works by preventing the ovaries from releasing eggs during ovulation.

EllaOne can work differently during different times in the menstrual cycle. Studies show that when EllaOne when taken in the middle of a menstrual cycle could be more effective at preventing ovulation when compared to Levonelle.

Please note: If ovulation has already occurred, EllaOne may not be effective. 

How does EllaOne affect your period?

When you take EllaOne, your period could arrive either earlier or later than expected, and this is entirely normal and common. However, just to be safe it is best to take a pregnancy test 3 weeks following any occasions of unprotected sex to make sure you are not pregnant. It is also best to check with your own doctor to see if you are pregnant if your next period is unusually heavy or unusually light.

How to take EllaOne

Always use EllaOne exactly as your doctor or pharmacy has instructed, or as outlined in the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL). You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

EllaOne is taken as ONE single tablet. Swallow the tablet whole with water.

You can either take the tablet before, after or without a meal. It is crucial that you take EllaOne as soon as possible and that it is taken within 120 hours (5 days) of having sex.

If you are sick within 3 hours of taking EllaOne, you will need to take another tablet.

As mentioned previously, after you have taken the morning after pill, you should make an appointment to see your doctor about 3 weeks later to check the pill has worked. If your period is more than 5 days late or is unusually light or unusually heavy, you should contact your doctor for advice as soon as possible.

What are the possible side effects of EllaOne?

Side effects are rare, and most people don’t get any. Possible side effects may vary from one person to the next, as with any medication. You should always read the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before taking this or any other medication.

This will give you important instructions on how and when to take the medication, as well as any possible side effects of the drug.
