Buscopan IBS relief is a tablet containing
hyoscine butylbromide. This medicine is used to relieve
the abdominal cramps which cause pain and
discomfort associated with Irritable Bowel
Syndrome. It belongs to a group of medicines
called antispasmodics. It works by relaxing the
cramping muscles of your bowel.
Before you take Buscopan IBS
Only take Buscopan IBS relief if you have been diagnosed with the Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Do not take Buscopan IBS Relief if you:
- Are allergic to hyoscine butylbromide or any of the other ingredients of Buscopan IBS Relief.
- You are intolerant to or cannot digest some sugars.
- You have glaucoma (an eye problem).
- You have megacolon (a very enlarged bowel).
- You have something called "myasthenia gravis", a very rare muscle weakness problem.
- You are pregnant, planning to get pregnant or breast-feeding.
How to take Buscopan IBS
Always take this medicine exactly as your
pharmacist or doctor has told you. You should
check with them if you are not sure. Buscopan IBS should not be taken continuously for more
than two weeks. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor
if you develop new symptoms or if your symptoms
get worse or have not improved over two weeks.
Dosage:
Adults and children 12 years or over:
• Start by taking 1 tablet three times a day
• You can increase your dose to a maximum of 2
tablets four times a day, if needed
• Swallow the tablet whole with water
• Do not crush or chew the tablet
Buscopan IBS is not recommended for
children under 12 years.

Side Effects in some people. The following side
effects may happen with this medicine:
Uncommon Side Effects: Mild Side Effects that do not normally require
medical treatment include dry mouth and outbreaks of sweat and dryness of skin. These are very uncommon and only affect fewer than 1 in 100 people.
Rare Side Effects: If you get any of the Side Effects described below
stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor
straight away. You may need urgent medical
treatment. These Side Effects include skin reactions, increased heart rate.
Before you take Buscopan IBS relief
Only take Buscopan IBS Relief if your doctor has diagnosed that you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist:
You should tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following apply to you:
- if you have a very fast heart rate or other heart problems
- if you have previously been treated by a doctor for a severe sweating disorder
- if you are taking an antidepressant, major tranquilliser, antihistamine, antiviral drug, dopamine antagonist (e.g. metclopramide), or a medicine to treat a heart problem.
If any of the following now apply to you, you must not use Buscopan IBS Relief without first discussing it with your doctor, incase your abdominal pain maybe something else:
- if you are aged 40 years or over and it is some time since your last attack of IBS or the symptoms are different this time
- if you have recently passed blood from the bowel
- if you suffer from severe constipation
- if you are feeling sick or vomiting
- if you have lost your appetite or lost weight
- if you have difficulty or pain passing urine
- if you have a fever
- if you have recently travelled abroad
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Do not take Buscopan IBS relief if you are pregnant, likely to get pregnant or are breast-feeding.
