What is Betnovate for?

Please note: Betnovate should only be tried if other weaker treatments have been unsuccessful for your symptoms. If you are unsure, speak to your GP or dermatologist before you buy Betnovate Cream or Ointment online.

Please note: Do not order Betnovate online for eczema or psoriasis to treat the face, neck, or sensitive areas of skin, unless directed by your doctor.

Betnovate is a ‘potent’ corticosteroid topical medication, stronger than some other similar treatments. It is applied to the skin to effectively and rapidly treat inflammatory skin disorders such as eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.

Betnovate is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline and is available in 30g and 100g sizes, in cream or ointment preparations depending on your preference.

What is the Difference between Betnovate Cream and Ointment?

Betnovate cream is usually prescribed if the area of affected skin is weeping (fluid-filled blisters). Betnovate ointment is normally more suited for drier areas of the skin due to its greasier nature.

How does Betnovate work?

Betnovate contains the corticosteroid Betamethasone (0.1%), which is applied directly to the skin for quick relief.

When your condition flares-up, you will likely experience dry, inflamed and itchy skin. This in turn causes the skin barrier to become damaged and increase the risk of allergens that cause further inflammation and irritation.

Betnovate Cream or Ointment however will target the skin cells to tackle this allergic response and reduce the release of inflammatory chemicals. This will then cause the redness, swelling and inflammation to subside.

How to use Betnovate

After you buy Betnovate for eczema or psoriasis online, always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has directed, and as outlined in the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL). Check with your doctor if you are not sure.

You usually apply Betnovate once or twice daily, although this may be reduced as your skin begins to heal. Always wash your hands prior to use and only carefully apply a thin layer of the cream or ointment.

Do not use Betnovate on large areas of the body for a long period of time (such as every day for many weeks or months) - unless your doctor tells you to do so.

Full guidance on the application of Betnovate for different areas of the body can be found in the PIL.

Please note: If your skin problem does not improve in 2 to 4 weeks, talk to your doctor for advice.

What are the possible side effects of Betnovate?

Side effects are rare, and most people don’t get any. Possible side effects may vary from one person to the next, as with any medication. You should always read the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before using or any other medication.

This will give you important instructions on how and when to use the medication, as well as any possible side effects of the drug.
